Caring for your onyx
Onyx is a natural stone, formed over millions of years. Its veining, color and soft translucency make every CNTRPIECE piece one of a kind. With a little care, your piece will stay beautiful for a lifetime.
The essentials
Five simple habits to keep your piece looking its best.
Cleaning
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. For light marks, use a barely damp cloth with a small amount of pH-neutral soap, then dry the surface immediately. Avoid harsh chemicals, all-purpose cleaners, glass sprays, or anything abrasive.
Spills
As a natural stone, onyx is not stain-proof. Wipe up wine, oils, and other acidic or pigmented liquids as soon as possible.
Heat
Avoid exposing your piece to sudden or extreme heat to prevent thermal stress, which can potentially crack the stone.
Light
Display away from prolonged direct sunlight, as extended UV exposure can gradually shift the color of the stone. We recommend placing your piece somewhere with gentle, indirect light instead.
Handling
Always lift your piece to move it rather than sliding it, as the edges are naturally the most vulnerable point.
Lift, don't slide
The edges of natural stone are its most vulnerable point. Always lift your piece to move it.
Less is more
A soft, dry cloth is all you need day to day. For light marks, a barely damp cloth with a little pH-neutral soap, then dry the surface straight away.
Let it glow, gently
Place your piece somewhere with gentle, indirect light. Its translucency comes alive, without long exposure to direct sun.
Product-specific care
Open the piece you own.
Coasters
Coasters
Wipe clean after use, especially after wine, coffee or citrus drinks. Let them dry fully before stacking.
Vases
Vases
Not every stone vase is made to hold water. If you're unsure whether your vase is suitable for fresh flowers, please contact us before use. After use, empty the vase and dry it with a soft cloth.
Bowls
Bowls
Best suited for dry items such as fruit with skin, keys or jewelry. Avoid acidic or oily foods and liquids.
Candle holders
Candle holders
Never leave a burning candle unattended. To remove wax, let it harden, then gently lift it off with your fingers or a soft plastic tool. Never scrape with metal.
Lighting
Lighting
Always switch off and unplug your lamp before cleaning, and let it cool down. Dust the stone with a soft, dry cloth only.
A signature, not a flaw
Small natural pits, veins, color variations and inclusions are part of what makes onyx unique. They are not defects, but the signature of a stone shaped by nature.
